The bronze-medal match reshaped this race. Mbappé’s brace in France’s 6–4 loss to England took him to 10 goals for the tournament and, remarkably, past Messi on the all-time World Cup list — more on that below. With his tournament over, that tally is frozen and only Messi can catch him on Sunday.
