Two pre-tournament top-10 sides eliminated in the same night, a third (Brazil) shortened sharply on a stoppage-time winner, and a couple of book-shocking outsiders (Morocco, Paraguay) re-priced into genuine contenders. Monday night reshaped the outright board more than any single matchday since the group draw. Below is where the market sits on the morning of June 30, the moves of the last 24 hours, and the spots Canadian bettors should be working through before the next round of R32 matches lands.

The Board — As of June 30, AM ET
These are decimal lines compiled from ESPN BET, FOX Sports’ Yahoo-published prices, and corroborating media summaries across Canadian-facing books. The figures below are best-priced or modal quotes from the books actually pricing the market. Confirm the live number at your book before staking — all stakes in CAD.
Outright winner — top of the board
- France — 4.40 (+340); cross-book read 4.33 (10/3)
- Argentina — 5.10 (+410); cross-book read 5.00 (4/1)
- Spain — 7.50–8.00 (7.50 at ESPN BET, out to 8.00 elsewhere)
- England — 8.00 (+700 / 7/1)
- Brazil — 10.50 (+950)
- Portugal — 16.00 (+1500)
- Morocco — 46.00 (+4500) at FanDuel (shortened post-Netherlands)
- Norway — 41.00 (40/1) (plays today, may exit)
- Paraguay — shortened sharply after beating Germany, into the dark-horse range
Off the board
- Germany and the Netherlands are eliminated. Any book still showing them as live contenders has a stale line; ignore that quote.
The Moves That Matter
Brazil 14.00 → 10.50. The single biggest 24-hour move on the board. FOX Sports’ Yahoo feed listed Brazil at +1300 (decimal 14.00) before kickoff against Japan and at +950 (decimal 10.50) on Tuesday morning, a ~25% shortening of the price — its implied win probability up from about 7% to nearly 10%. The Casemiro / Martinelli comeback was treated by the market as a confirmation that the Seleção are functional again, with Neymar returning from his calf issue.
Morocco and Paraguay shortened sharply. Both upset winners moved into a price range that makes them properly betting-relevant rather than novelty plays. Morocco at 46.00 (+4500) on FanDuel sits above what their R32 form alone would justify, and the Round-of-16 tie against Canada is, as bracket scenarios go, one of the more navigable in the round (which is precisely why our Canada vs Morocco R16 preview reads it as a coin-flip). Paraguay’s move was qualitatively similar — shortened out of long-shot territory into a properly listed contender price.
France stays favourite at ~4.40. No price compression on France yet — but the Tuesday-evening tie with Sweden is the first chance for the market to confirm or revise that read. France have been the cleanest team of the tournament on form (W Norway 4-1, W Iraq 3-0, W Senegal 3-1), and the cross-book spread of 4.33-to-4.40 is one of the tighter consensus reads on the board.
Spain in a wide 7.50-8.00 range, with an injury cloud. The gap between 7.50 at ESPN BET and 8.00 elsewhere is a real spread (an extra ~$100 on a $200 stake at the longer price), and it is now compounded by Nico Williams and Yeremy Pino both being doubtful for the Austria tie on July 2. See our Spain vs Austria R32 preview for the team-news read.
Where I Think the Market Has It Right — and Where It Doesn’t
Right: France as the favourite. The form is the cleanest of any side, the injury list is empty, and the bracket sets up reasonably. 4.40 (+340) is not a price I would chase, but I would not lay it either.
Right: Germany and the Netherlands off the board. Both teams had been over-backed pre-tournament; the elimination was painful but the priced-in probability of either lifting the trophy had been generous. The market re-priced correctly inside an hour.
Wrong-ish: Brazil at 10.50 is now in the same neighbourhood as Spain’s longer price. I would lean Spain at 8.00 over Brazil at 10.50 — Spain’s form has been better, the bracket more navigable, and the price is wider than the underlying gap. But I would not call it a banker.
Underpriced: Morocco at 46.00 deserves a small-stake look. The R16 path is genuinely friendly (Canada, then the winner of the USA/Bosnia vs Belgium/Senegal mini-bracket), the squad has knockout pedigree from 2022, and the goalkeeper had what looks like a tournament-defining game on Monday. It is still a long shot, but 46.00 is not "novelty" range any more.
Golden Boot — The Race Is Messi’s to Lose
The Golden Boot market is shifting alongside the outright board:
- Messi 1.95 (-105) — 6 goals, a record seven straight World Cup matches scoring.
- Mbappé 3.80 (+280) — 4 goals; reached 16 career WC goals to tie Klose for second-most all time.
- Dembélé 13.00 (+1200) — 4 goals; entered the race with a group-stage hat-trick.
- Vinícius Júnior 17.00 (+1600) — 4 goals.
- Harry Kane 19.00 (+1800).
Messi at near even money is a tough bet to chase — but the record streak and the lead make him the closer-than-it-feels favourite. If you fancy the upset, Mbappé at 3.80 with France’s bracket and Mbappé’s volume looks like the right value play. The deeper picture is on our Golden Boot odds page.
- France remains the World Cup 2026 outright favourite at around 4.40 — bracket and form intact.
- Brazil shortened from 14.00 to 10.50 — the biggest single-day move on the board.
- Germany and the Netherlands are off the board after Monday’s R32 exits; ignore any stale quote that still lists them.
- Morocco at 46.00 and Paraguay at a shortened dark-horse number are the upset sides actually worth a look.
- Messi at 1.95 is the Golden Boot favourite; Mbappé at 3.80 is the better value if you want a swing bet.
